Main Application
As an intermediate
Sodium Cyanide is predominantly employed to extract gold and other precious metals. It is used as a flotation agent to separate metal from the ores. In the process, gold is oxidized after reacting with cyanide, and it becomes easier to dissolve in water and be separated.
For electroplating
Sodium Cyanide is used as surfactant to clean metal surface.
For chemical purpose
Sodium Cyanide is a raw material to manufacture chemical products, such as the organic synthesis of nitrile and cyanohydrin. It can also be used to make dyes, such as sodium ferrocyanide.
Others
Sodium Cyanide can be used to produce herbicide or mixed with oil and petrolatum to make pesticide.
